This second conference for researchers, policymakers and practitioners brings together over 400 participants from 42 countries. Its theme is "innovations and traditions for sustainability", a subject at the heart of all GI sectors (PDO and PGI).

A cross-section of public decision-makers, administrations, researchers and professionals

In this context, many professionals shared their experiences and initiatives in terms of sustainability, whether economic, social, environmental or in terms of governance, demonstrating the capacity of GI sectors to adapt to multiple changes, while preserving the framework of tradition and know-how.
The INAO also took the floor to present the systems put in place to enable innovation and experimentation within PDOs and PGIs, notably the innovation assessment system, the so-called "key point" methods, and the assessment grids, some of whose criteria take up indicators developed by the FAO.

The conference is organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (MASAF), with the CIRAD (Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement), the IPI (Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property), oriGIn (Organization for an International Geographical Indications Network), Origin Italia and the Qualivita Foundation.
