Delimitation of production areas, protection of terroirs and territories
Because of their reputation and the quality of the products that benefit from them, Geographical Indications (OPA, IGP, French spirituous GIs) represent an important component of regional development and contribute to its heritage value.
The INAO is involved in both delimiting production areas and defending them against the risks of land reduction. This mission only concerns geographical indications.

"Territoires et Délimitation"
The INAO's Territoires et Délimitation department supports a network of engineers located throughout France, within the territorial delegations. It also includes a cartographic data office.
