Understanding the challenges of SIQO for regional development

SIQO represent a potential for territorial development. They enable a qualitative gain in agricultural production, improve producers' incomes and contribute to maintaining a local activity specific to the territory and its identity, which, moreover, cannot be relocated. They bring positive externalities, such as preserving the traditional image of landscapes associated with SIQO products, an undeniable tourist argument.

Identify the SIQO production potential of your territories

Many local decision-makers are not always aware that the territory they administer lies within the geographical area of a SIQO product, and may underestimate the stakes involved in protecting them. Yet, because of their reputation and the quality of the products that benefit from them, Geographical Indications represent an important component of local development, and contribute to the heritage and economic value of the territory. INAO has set up tools to help you find out more about SIQO in your territories.

For local decision-makers, this approach represents an opportunity to better consider the challenges of protecting agricultural areas under SIQO, but also to come up with consensual projects adapted to the issues of our time: ecological transition, food sovereignty, the fight against soil artificialisation, economic development of territories and sectors...
