Classification of the "Saint-Émilion grand cru" PDO - Decisions of the Conseil d'État of March 15, 2024 [ODG] [ODG
Friday, March 15, 2024, after 11 years of proceedings, the Conseil d'État confirmed the legality of the 2012 classification of "Saint-Emilion grand cru" PDO growths.

The Conseil d'État's decision of Friday, March 15, 2024 dismissing the appeal by Mr. Boidron and GFA Domaine de Calon seeking annulment of the September 5, 2012 decision by which the commission de classement des crus classés de l'appellation d'origine protégée "Saint-Emilion grand cru" refused to classify their estate, Château Corbin Michotte within the "grands crus classés" of the AOC "Saint-Emilion grand cru" brings to an end 11 years of proceedings before the administrative courts.
For the record, three châteaux had challenged the decisions of the INAO classification commission and the ministerial order approving the 2012 classification.
On December 17, 2015, the Bordeaux Administrative Court had ruled on the legality of the 2012 classification, deeming the criticisms made by the petitioners unfounded.
On April 12, 2019, the Bordeaux Administrative Court of Appeal, had ruled the three petitions inadmissible.
On February 12, 2021, the Conseil d'État, without calling into question the 2012 classification and without addressing the merits of the dispute, had overturned the decisions of the Bordeaux Administrative Court of Appeal, and referred the case back to the latter.
On March 22, 2022, in three particularly well-reasoned rulings on the merits of the approach taken and the reliability of the examination procedure, the Bordeaux Administrative Court of Appeal dismissed the three petitions.
Only Mr. Boidron then appealed to the Conseil d'État. Today, the Conseil d'État confirms the legality of the work carried out by the classification commission during the 2012 classification.
