A Label Rouge for the "tomato plant" n° LA 08/23 [ODG].
The "tomato plant" n° LA 08/23 has just been recognized as a Label Rouge following the publication of its approval order by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty and the Ministry of the Economy, on March 1, 2024. This is the first Label Rouge for vegetable plants on the product most purchased by gardeners, the tomato plant.
Varieties selected for their productivity and disease tolerance
This selection, in the different segments known to the consumer (round, cherry, fleshy, elongated, heart, bunch), is carried out in several stages in order to guarantee the best varieties to serve the superior quality of the Label rouge. It requires monitoring of harvests during cultivation (quantity of tomatoes produced and weight of harvests) as well as evaluation by an independent jury of criteria relating to the plant, foliage, fruit and health.
A vigorous, well-balanced tomato plant
Label rouge tomato plants are grown in large enough containers (pots/bins) to enable them to develop optimally, so that they are vigorous when planted at the consumer's.
A slightly longer cultivation period is planned, and a systematic sorting is carried out before dispatch: depending on their container, the plants respect a minimum number of internodes and a precise height. The plants are stocky without being too strong or stunted. Compliance with these requirements means that we sell plants that are well prepared to take root once planted in the garden.

Production committed to an environmentally-friendly approach
The Label Rouge tomato plant is certified as a "blue plant" (officially recognized as equivalent to level 2 environmental certification), or from farms certified as organic. Crops are monitored exclusively using products authorized for organic farming. All pots used are recycled, recyclable or compostable.

About Label Rouge
Label Rouge is a national sign of quality that designates food products or non-food, unprocessed agricultural products which, due to their production or manufacturing conditions, have a superior level of quality compared to so-called "standard" products. At every stage of production and processing, a Label Rouge product must meet the requirements defined in a set of specifications, validated by the Institut national de l'origine et de la qualité (INAO) and approved by an interministerial decree published in the Journal officiel de la République française. Compliance with these requirements and product traceability is monitored by an independent certification body supervised by INAO.
