A Conseil d'Etat ruling in favor of PGI recognition for Landes honey
By its decision of March 12, 2025, the Conseil d'État has validated the procedure for registering the name "Miel des Landes" as a PGI, the specifications for which had been approved by decree on August 17, 2023. The application to register Miel des Landes as a protected geographical indication is currently being examined by the European Commission.

Benefiting from a reputation acquired at least since the 19th century, "Miel des Landes" covers the vast plateau that runs along the Atlantic coast from the south of the Landes department to the Pointe de Grave, with Nérac at its eastern end. The specifications for "Miel des Landes" were approved by decree on August 17, 2023. Several operators in the sector had asked the Conseil d'État to annul the decree by means of a petition, registered on October 24, 2023.
The case is still being investigated at European level
By a decision dated March 12, 2025, the Conseil d'État validated the recognition of Miel des Landes with a view to its registration as a PGI and rejected the petition filed by these operators. The Conseil d'Etat thus recognized the specific characteristics of "Miel des Landes", in particular its organoleptic qualities resulting from "the expression of a territory marked by sandy soil, by a multiplicity of floral species which allows the honey harvest to be spread out", as well as the particular know-how of its beekeepers.
The application to register Miel des Landes as a protected geographical indication is currently being examined by the European Commission. If awarded the PGI, Miel des Landes would become the 4th PGI for honey in France.
