Protection of agricultural land under SIQO and land use planning: a webinar to decipher the issues at stake
The protection of agricultural areas is an essential action for food sovereignty and ecological transition. It is a regalian mission of the INAO, which concerns all players in land use planning. In order to raise awareness among this audience, the institute is organizing an educational webinar on the protection of land under official signs of identification of quality and origin (SIQO), on Tuesday June 18, 2024 from 11am to 12:30pm. As the event is fully booked, a 2nd webinar is proposed on Friday July 5, 2024 from 11am to 12:30pm.

The event is aimed at all those involved in land protection: agents from local authorities, DDT-M, DAAF, DRAAF, DREAL, SAFER, national and regional nature parks, chambers of agriculture, urban planning agencies... Designed from an informative angle, the webinar will give planning professionals a broad view of the issues involved in protecting SIQO territories, as well as INAO's mission on this topic. On the program: presentation of official quality and origin identification signs, their economic importance in national agricultural production, INAO's missions, explanations on the principles of production area delimitation and information on land protection under SIQO.
Preserving production potential, the environment and landscapes.
Agricultural land is subject to many pressures: the retreat of farmland in favor of urbanization and infrastructure, conflicts of use, landscape transformation... SIQO are not spared. And yet, the development of quality agriculture and productive, living rural territories is essential for our food sovereignty, ecological transition, but also the development of local activity and sectors.
INAO, a player in the protection of terroirs and territories
INAO plays an important role in the protection of agricultural areas under SIQO, as well as their production potential. Legislative and regulatory texts stipulate that INAO must be consulted on draft urban planning documents covering an appellation area, and that it participates in departmental commissions for the preservation of natural, agricultural and forestry areas. Over the years, INAO has strengthened its role in this area.
