This agreement aims to create a framework for bilateral exchanges concerning the consolidation of the new Philippine system for the recognition of GIs, by providing technical support to the Philippine authorities. The Philippines has many potential GIs, thanks to its agricultural traditions and ancestral know-how.
Several production sectors are thus likely to see GIs recognized in the near future. These include the pili nut, known as "Bicol Pili nut", and mangoes, two of the country's traditional products.
