Geneva Act: the second round of modifications is now underway!
In order to preserve the acquired rights and anteriority of appellations d'origine (AO) registered under the 1958 Lisbon Agreement, a transfer procedure under the Geneva Act has been set in motion at European and French level. This transfer procedure is now in its second phase, since after July 2021 when 69 AOs were concerned, the French authorities (INAO and Ministry of Agriculture and Food) were authorized by the European Commission at the joint committee meeting on September 23 to proceed with the updates of 209 AOs (21 agri-foods, 11 spirits and 176 wines).

INAO has now sent each of the defense and management organizations (ODG) concerned an explanatory letter with constrained deadlines for response (October 4, 2021 for SAMOA and Cambodia) and payment (October 21, 2021). This letter details the changes to be made for each AO, the resulting cost and the payment schedule to WIPO, and requests feedback on the specific fees for SAMOA and Cambodia. INAO handles most of the administrative work involved in preparing the information/exchanges with the GDOs; negotiations with the Commission's services are carried out jointly with the Ministry's services (DGPEE office of globalization and food safety).
This exercise is important for the international protection of your GIs, in order to protect them as effectively as possible from the various forms of usurpation.
