Protecting agricultural areas under SIQO: INAO raises awareness among local authorities [ODG].

INAO has produced educational information for local decision-makers to remind them of their regulatory obligations in terms of planning, and to raise awareness of the need to protect SIQO territories. ODGs also have an important role to play in this essential action for the development and preservation of quality products.

Legislative and regulatory texts stipulate that INAO must be consulted for its opinion on all development, urbanization or works projects concerning an appellation zone, or on expropriation measures concerning this type of zone. GDOs at the heart of SIQO defense

The protection mission is led by INAO with and alongside the GDOs. The aim is to defend the local dynamics of these products. On the pillar constituted by the specifications of each SIQO, INAO and ODG work together, according to the respective missions entrusted to them by the legislator, to preserve the following issues:

A collective heritage linked to natural and human factors

The positive image of the SIQO, its notoriety and reputation

The sustainability of the SIQO, and the farms and businesses that produce it

The economic sustainability of the entire sector

INAO has produced a brochure entitled "Protection of territories under quality and origin identification signs: mode d'emploi " giving all the details you need to take concrete action. Don't hesitate to consult it and soak up the shared arguments. The pooling of INAO and ODG interventions will give greater effectiveness to protection actions.
