Pasto Meetings: Bringing Together Stakeholders in SIQO and Pastoralism

This event will provide an opportunity to focus on production sectors certified under the Quality and Origin Identification (SIQO) program—including AOP, IGP, AB, Label Rouge, and STG—that practice pastoralism.

Centered around a booth designed to welcome visitors, partners, and institutional representatives in the Welcome Hall of the Sommet de l’Élevage, Les Rencontres Pasto has been organized by SIDAM and Auvergne Rhône Alpes Estives since 2024 and will culminate in the 2026 edition, the International Year of Pastoralism. Numerous conferences and events will be held to bring together stakeholders in the sector.

The event aims to highlight pastoralism—an essential practice in French and local livestock farming—to understand how it works and its importance in the face of current challenges (food security, the economy, the environment, and cultural heritage), and to promote an ambitious policy in this area.

What is pastoralism?

According to the French Association for Pastoralism, “pastoralism refers to all livestock-raising activities that utilize the natural forage resources of wild areas through extensive grazing and aim to provide all or part of the animals’ feed.” ”
