As a result of the global changes affecting agricultural production, practices must evolve to adapt production methods to contemporary challenges. In particular, this means giving special consideration to protection against climatic hazards, reducing phytosanitary inputs, taking animal welfare into account, or even reducing greenhouse gas emissions...

Taking innovations into account does, however, mean ensuring that the identity of Label Rouge and PGI products is respected, in this case maintaining their superior level of quality or their link to a territory. It is necessary either to lighten the framework of certain practices to cope with current constraints, or, on the contrary, to reinforce certain production requirements.

As a result, INAO has undertaken a review of its procedures and developed tools available to defense and management organizations (ODG) to support them in their adaptation processes. The aim is to identify the relevance and scope of new practices in Label Rouge and IGP agri-foodstuffs through an experimental approach. In particular, this approach makes it possible to experiment with certain innovations, while enabling the products resulting from these experiments to claim the benefit of the SIQO, within a defined framework guaranteeing respect for their specific features.

This directive thus provides the ODGs concerned with the expected framework to better respond to contemporary issues.
