China recognizes the Burgundy appellations Gevrey-Chambertin and Mâcon as geographical indications (GIs)
On the occasion of President Xi Jinping's visit to France, Chinese authorities announced, on May 7, 2024, China's recognition of the Burgundy appellations of origin Gevrey-Chambertin and Mâcon as geographical indications (GIs).

This announcement comes at just the right time during a milestone in the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and China. It follows on from China's registration of Bordeaux wine appellations of origin in 2016, and reciprocal protection agreements between the European Union and China.
This rich collaboration will continue, notably through the renewed technical cooperation agreement this Tuesday between the INAO, the China national intellectual property administration (CNIPA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty.
It will enhance mutual knowledge of the two countries' systems, and strengthen the protection of French and European GIs in China. This approach will make it possible to take advantage of all the protection potential resulting from these recognitions, and will enable the Chinese authorities to combat misuse and protect consumers.
