Garden fruit trees" awarded Label Rouge [ODG].
Garden fruit trees have been recognized as Label Rouge since March 29, 2022: a guarantee for the consumer of a garden fruit tree of superior quality compared to a so-called "standard" product. It promotes apple, apricot, cherry, plum and pear species. This new labelled product must benefit from "Plante Bleue" environmental certification or any other second-level certification recognized by the French Ministry of Agriculture: a first for a Label Rouge!
Trained and prepared to produce in the garden
Each Label Rouge garden fruit tree is selected standing in the field or in containers, prepared before shipping. It meets demanding visual criteria: specific trunk shape, height and size, minimum number of carpenter and/or secondary branches (depending on the age of the tree) ensuring the end customer a shaped tree that is both ready to plant and well branched, which will then be able to grow harmoniously.
Varieties selected for their fertility and disease tolerance
Each apple, apricot, cherry, plum and pear variety is selected by an independent commission of experts from different professional categories (growers, specialized journalists, technicians, amateurs, distributors). These varieties have demonstrated real interest for the amateur market, notably their disease tolerance (easy maintenance), fertility and "non-alternative" for a promise of fruit.
A controlled, environmentally-friendly operator approach
Growers must benefit from "Plante Bleue" certification or any other second-level environmental certification from the French Ministry of Agriculture. This certification is based on specifications designed to limit environmental impacts: irrigation management, fertilization strategy, crop protection, waste management, energy management, biodiversity and environment, social and societal rules. These good practices and Label Rouge production are subject to regular control by an independent certifying body, guaranteeing consumers traceability, compliance with production conditions and the quality of Label Rouge products.
This recognition is in addition to the 5 horticultural Label Rouge awards already in existence: "High quality turf", "Dahlia flower bulbs", "Rose plants", "Cut Christmas tree", "Geranium plants".
