Viticulture

A culture rooted in its production basin

This recognition embodies the determination of local producers to maintain the sparkling wine production initiated as early as the 19th century.
The geographical area includes communes in the Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse and Moselle departments.

An exceptional territory for unique tastes

The "Lorraine" protected geographical indication is reserved for quality white, rosé and red sparkling wines. Aromatic and fresh, "Lorraine" PGI wines reflect the characteristics of their territory, a regional climatic and geo-pedological context that favors the ripening of grape varieties while preserving the necessary freshness. These sparkling wines have fine bubbles and a lively, fresh profile, with a lingering aftertaste conferred by the grape varieties used. White wines are pale yellow to golden in color. Their aromatic palette ranges from white flowers to citrus and yellow fruit. Rosé wines are salmon to deep peony, sometimes coppery, with notes of red berries. Red wines are cherry-red to garnet-red, with aromas of ripe red fruit, sometimes candied and stewed. The "Lorraine" PGI thus completes the range of wines produced locally under official signs of identification of quality and origin: the "Côtes de Toul" PDO, the "Moselle" PDO and the "Côtes de Meuse" PGI

A production that adapts to the challenge of climate change

As well as the grape varieties traditionally used in the region, which are well adapted to the geographical area due to their earliness, the winemakers have included in their specifications new varieties derived from crosses obtained in Eastern France, Germany or Switzerland, which aim to meet environmental objectives and adapt to climate change.
