SIQO Logos and Product Labeling Rules

To ensure that consumers receive accurate information, the marketing of products bearing official quality and origin identification marks (SIQO) requires compliance with the various regulations in effect.

General Labeling Rules

The general labeling rules for food products offered for sale naturally apply to SIQO-certified products. They are governed in particular by European Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011. They vary depending on how the products are packaged or presented (prepackaged or not). These rules are detailed on the website of the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs, and Fraud Control (DGCCRF).

There are also sector-specific labeling regulations:
Regulation No. 1308/2013 on the Common Organization of Agricultural Markets for wine
•    Decree No. 2012-655 of May 4, 2012 on the labeling and traceability of wine products and certain oenological practices
•    Decree No. 2007-628 of April 27, 2007 concerning cheeses and cheese specialties

Logos Related to Organic Farming

The AB national logo has existed since 1985 and is owned by the Ministry of Agriculture. Although it is widely recognized in France, its use on products is optional.

For the Euroleaf (Organic Farming), the terms of use for the logo are defined by Regulation (EU) No. 2018/848. The European organic logo is mandatory on all prepackaged organic food products sold as such in the European Union. The statement “certified by FR-BIO-XX” indicates the code of certification body that inspected this product.

The INAO has also produced a guide to labeling organic products (PDF format / 779 KB).
