The particularities of organic farming

In organic farming, the same regulations apply throughout the European Union. Regulation (EU) 2018/848 and its secondary texts specify all the production and control rules to be complied with. Certain products are not covered by the European regulation, so it is possible for Member States to set up national specifications (e.g. snails, salt, etc.).

Where necessary, INAO is responsible for clarifying European regulations for French operators. These are the working committees of the comité national de l'agriculture biologique (animal production, plant production, seeds & seedlings, algae & aquaculture, beekeeping, organic wine and downstream), which are responsible for examining questions/requests for clarification raised by operators, professional families and certification bodies, depending on the theme.
