European Organic Day is part of the European Union’s goal to have 25% of the utilitarian agricultural area (UAA) certified organic by 2030.
The goal of this event is to educate the general public about the organic approach and its benefits. This day also serves as an opportunity to recognize those who contribute to organic agriculture: professionals in production, processing, distribution, and institutional and commercial food service.
In France, nearly 61,000 farms are committed to this sustainable and resilient production method. This represents 17% of French farms and 10% of agricultural land (Agence BIO, 2026).
The Role of the INAO in Organic Farming
Organic farming is one of the five official labels indicating quality and origin. Drawing on its technical and legal expertise, the INAO is responsible for clarifying and ensuring the consistent application of European regulations governing organic production in France, as well as for overseeing the inspection system.
Organic Farming: Definition
Organic farming (AB) is a production method that combines practices that respect the environment and biodiversity, the conservation of natural resources, and the assurance of a high level of animal welfare.
Throughout the supply chain, operators engaged in organic production and processing adhere to strict European regulations that prioritize non-polluting processes that respect ecosystems and animals.
It is also a production method that excludes the use of GMOs and limits the use of inputs, favoring the use of natural and renewable resources within the framework of locally organized agricultural systems.
