Review of the Comité national des IGP, Labels Rouges et STG of January 30, 2025
A national committee dealing with Label Rouge (LR) / Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) and Traditional Specialties Guaranteed (TSG) signs took place on January 30, 2025. A look back at the main decisions taken during the committee.

Label Rouge
Agrivoltaics
The national committee has definitively recorded the conditions for integrating an agrivoltaic installation on Label Rouge poultry and palmiped farm runs. The fruit of hard work by the industry and its governing bodies, the conditions de production communes (CPC) validated enable the right balance to be struck between the development of agrivoltaics and the preservation of Label Rouge characteristics guaranteeing it superior quality, particularly as regards free-range farming, animal welfare and the nature of animal feed. The CPCs stipulate the maximum surface area of installations, the spacing between shading systems, their height, their distance from livestock buildings and their integration into the landscape. This framework should enable farmers who so wish to develop their agrivoltaic production without any hassle. This development will become a reality once the decree amending the CPCs has been published in the Bulletin Officiel of the French Ministry of Agriculture.
Growth regulators in Label Rouge flour
The working group commissioned by the national committee on the subject of limiting the use of growth regulators on wheat intended for the manufacture of Label Rouge flour has:
- Reported on the progress of this orientation: in 2024, 72% of farmers concerned do not use growth regulators
- For the others, guidelines have been taken to limit their use: agri-environmental measures to be implemented to compensate for the use of growth regulators and to encourage producers to move gradually towards a phase-out of growth regulators.
- This framework should enable contracts to be signed more serenely for the coming campaigns.
Other specifications
Several specifications have also been validated for a national PNO opposition procedure (common production conditions "Lamb", LA 11/89 "Charolais beef") opening the way in particular for recognition of a new product: Label Rouge chickpea. This recognition project is currently led by the Vendée Qualité group, and concerns a Kabuli type chickpea, characterized by its beige, homogeneous color and presented dry or cooked in its natural state. The national committee also took the opportunity to validate the PNO for the official association of Label Rouge n° LA 02/02 "Brioche" with the IGP "Brioche vendéenne".
Protected Geographical Indications
IGP Veau d'Aveyron et Ségala
The national committee has approved the amended draft specifications for the IGP Veau d'Aveyron et Ségala, which will first be subject to a two-month national objection procedure.
These revised specifications include new provisions enabling the PGI to promote new ways of presenting the product (deep-freezing, tartar, carpaccio in particular) in line with changing consumption patterns, and to better characterize the method of production, in particular concerning the release of calves accompanying their mothers out to pasture, while preserving what makes this product special: a calf aged 5 to 10 months suckled by its mother and receiving cereal- and forage-based supplementation.
With a view to maintaining the sustainability of the sector, the specifications also incorporate several agro-environmental provisions aimed at preserving biodiversity and reinforcing the place of grass on farms.
The "Veau d'Aveyron et du Ségala" sector will involve 404 farms and 20 meat companies in 2023, for a production of over 14,000 calves representing 3129 tons marketed as PGI. Some of the "Veau d'Aveyron et du Ségala" farms also benefit from "Haute Valeur Environnementale" certification.
In addition, the national committee also approved the modification of the specifications for the PGI Poultry from Janzé, which will first be subject to a two-month national opposition procedure.
