An observatory to monitor quality signs

Well-known and identified by consumers, these signs, such as organic farming, Label Rouge, AOC/AOP, IGP and STG, inspire confidence. All meet strict specifications, and the products concerned are subject to rigorous controls.

To showcase these labels and monitor them from year to year, a regional observatory has been set up around the INAO, DRAAF, the Région Bretagne, the FRAB, IBB and the Chambre d'Agriculture de Bretagne. This collective effort has resulted in the first edition of a regional economic memento deciphering the various sectors involved.

A dynamic production that creates value for Brittany

Brittany has seen its volumes of SIQO products increase. In 2020, the region counted 72 products recognized as Label Rouge, AOC, AOP, IGP or STG. These generated sales of 430 million euros in one year. Brittany is the leading region for seafood products, and concentrates 12 quality signs out of 33 nationally. Very well positioned on charcuterie products too, the progression of Label Rouge volumes was 15% between 2019 and 2020. Businesses involved in organic farming accounted for 13.7% of the region's farming businesses that same year. Brittany is thus the leading organic-producing region for dairy cattle, vegetables and poultry.

Many challenges await SIQO producers in the months ahead: rising raw material prices, falling purchasing power, anxiety linked to climate change... Against this backdrop, the observatory will make it possible to monitor and explain developments in SIQO markets and consumption. It will enable us to assess the ability of SIQOs to demonstrate their resilience due to the quality guarantees they offer consumers.
