A Label Rouge for "Tomate de bouche

The "Tomate de bouche" has just been recognized as a Label Rouge following the publication of its approval order by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty and the Ministry of the Economy, on June 18, 2023. This is the first tomato to be awarded the Label Rouge, its superior quality having been demonstrated by sensory analysis, in comparison with a so-called "standard" tomato. Good news for salad lovers as summer approaches!

Four types of tomato to rediscover the good taste of the fruit

Four types of Label Rouge tomato are now available: the Round Red Tomato Bunch and the Elongated Heart Tomato for an intense aroma in the mouth, the Round Red Cherry Tomato and Round Red Cherry Tomato Bunch for a sweet flavor and aromatic intensity in the mouth.
The "Tomate de bouche" comes from the "Temptation", "Saopolo" and "Gourmandia" varieties, selected for their presentation and taste qualities. 25% of production will be carried out in the open ground under cover. Today in France, only 3% of mouth tomato production is carried out in the open ground.

A supervised manual harvest, respecting the maturity of the product

The Label Rouge "Tomate de Bouche" is harvested by hand as soon as natural sunlight, sugar levels and fruit maturity allow, from March 21 onwards. Harvesting is completed by October 31st at the latest, provided that natural sunlight, ripeness and sugar levels are still respected. Shipment to points of sale is scheduled a maximum of 4 days after picking.

Production with environmental certification

Farms located in Lot-et-Garonne, Bouches du Rhône, Pyrénées orientales and Landes are certified to at least level 2 or attest to compliance with equivalent requirements thanks to the strong commitment of producers: bumblebee hives to improve pollination and fruit development, planting density and nutrition controlled according to segments/varieties and crop stage, ban on synthetic herbicides within Label Rouge plots and their surroundings.
