The 2025 Memento, based on the latest figures from 2023, highlights the diversity of agricultural sectors in the Grand Est region, where production under the SIQO certification system—particularly organic farming—continues to thrive.

The Grand-Est region: dynamic SIQO-certified production, diverse sectors

The Grand-Est region has 47 products with SIQO certification, including one new product since 2024: the “Lorraine” wine PGI. The region is particularly strong in recognized alcoholic beverage production, notably featuring 8 brandies and spirits with GI status and 8 wine PDOs. The wine and spirits sector accounts for 38% of the region’s SIQO-certified products (excluding organic products).

The region also benefits from a wide variety of SIQO-certified products. However, the trends within the various sectors differ. Fruit and vegetables, as well as meat products, are seeing an increase in their marketed volumes, as is the fruit and vegetable sector. The confectionery sector is also experiencing an increase in its marketed volumes, despite the discontinuation of production of Label Rouge Fir Tree Honey (LA 06/94). As for dairy products, sales volumes remain stable.

The confectionery sector has also seen an increase in sales volumes, despite the discontinuation of production of Label Rouge Fir Tree Honey (LA 06/94).

As for dairy products, sales volumes remain stable.

The wine and spirits sector, meanwhile, has seen a slight decline in sales volumes, as have the “Pâtes d’Alsace” PGI, the Label Rouge “Fresh and Frozen Prepared Snails,” and “High-Quality Grass.”

The Organic Sector Is Growing

Furthermore, the study highlights significant growth in the organic sector in the region. The number of hectares certified or in conversion increased by 81% between 2017 and 2023, now covering an area of 230,974 hectares. 3,955 farms in the Grand Est Region produce all or part of their crops using organic farming methods.

The INAO and the Economic Monitoring of SIQO

The INAO collects and analyzes economic data on SIQO-certified products. The Institute disseminates this information through various channels: key figures, regional fact sheets, sector data, and more.

These documents are compiled using data collected during the annual statistical survey of promotional and management organizations (producer associations, professional federations for products bearing official labels) and in partnership with other public entities (FranceAgriMer, INRAE, AGRESTE, the Regional Directorates for Agriculture, Agri-Food, and Forestry, the Agence Bio, the regional Chambers of Agriculture, etc.).
