A memento of SIQO products in Occitania

The Occitanie region's Observatoire économique des signes officiels d'identification de la qualité et de l'origine (SIQO) has just published a new regional memento based on 2022 data. This synthetic document gives a clear and precise vision of the economic importance of the various SIQO sectors in the region.

Organized as part of the Region's SIQO economic observatory, this publication is the fruit of a partnership between IRQUALIM, the Occitanie Regional Chamber of Agriculture, INTERBIO Occitanie (ORAB), DRAAF, INRAE and INAO. It is based on 2023 data from the various stakeholders.


A territory committed to SIQO production


The Occitanie region counts 261 products benefiting from a SIQO including six new products: the AOP " Pic Saint Loup", the AOP " Huile d'olive du Languedoc", the IGP " Terres du Midi", the IGP " Tome fraîche de l'Aubrac", the IGP " Sel de Camargue / Fleur de sel de Camargue", the AOP " Sable de Camargue". The region boasts the greatest diversity of SIQO products in France. It is also a major geographical indication vineyard, with a production of 11,502,152hl. 97% of the wine volumes produced in Occitanie are valued under SIQO.

24,010 farms are involved in a SIQO approach in Occitanie, out of 64,370 farms in the region. It also includes 6,124 downstream operators (slaughterers, cutting plants, processing, maturing, packaging, winemakers, mareyeurs, flour mills...). In addition, 13,687 farms are engaged in organic farming (or in conversion), representing 19.7% of the region's usable agricultural area. This makes Occitanie the 1st French region in organic farming, in terms of surface area and number of farms.

As at national level, SIQO represent 40% of farm sales in Occitanie.

INAO and SIQO economic monitoring

INAO collects and analyzes economic data on SIQO products. The Institute valorizes this information through various information media: key figures, regional mementos, industry data...


These documents are drawn up using data collected during the annual statistical survey of defense and management bodies (producers' associations, professional federations of products under official signs) and in partnership with other public players (FranceAgriMer, INRAE, AGRESTE, the Regional Directorates of Agriculture, Agri-Food and Forestry, Agence Bio, regional Chambers of Agriculture, etc.).
